Quality : TEST your skills

If you have bought a car recently, you will already know the importance of the “quality” criteria in your choice of model. Moreover, if you have had a car for a number of years you will feel the financial impact of quality, arising from running costs incurred.

A supplier of major manufacturers in the automobile industry, MONTUPET has established:

An ambitious quality policy,
the aim of which is
long term customer satisfaction.

This policy and the associated management system are ISO 9001
and ISO/TS 16949 certified. (international automobile standard).

The following is a quick test to enable you to evaluate your own quality management skills. Note down your
answer to each question and then go to the bottom of the page to see if you are the person that we are looking for to best meet the needs of our customers.

1.Before starting a DIY task which will take several days:

a) Do you make a note of what you intend to achieve (with sketches and measurements?
b) Do you prioritise the tasks, identifying what you will need to complete each of them?
c) Do you ensure the availability of skilled people in case any problems arise ?

2. When you give someone a task or you ask someone to do something for you:

a) Do you leave the person to get on with the task ?
b) Do you carry out regular checks during completion of the task ?
c) Do you give help and advice when necessary ?
3.It has come to your supplier’s attention that their product may be faulty. Do you
expect the supplier to:

a) Correct the fault as soon as possible without telling you.
b) Warn you about it and continue to supply.
c) Stop the supply for as long as the fault continues.
4. When you have to begin a complex task to which you are not accustomed :

a) Do you start it immediately without much thought, because you learn best from hands on experience?
b) Do you take time to get the necessary documentation (instruction manual, check list)?
c) Do you try and get training or assistance from experienced people.
5. Finally, do you believe that competition in the marketplace:

a) Reduces the quality standard of products?
b) Increases the quality standard of products?
c) Has no effect on the quality standard of products?

RESULTS OF THE TEST

If you have answered mostly "C" : you could well be the person that we are looking
for: in any case you have certain skills and/or thoughts which are very useful when
it comes to quality.

If you have answered mostly "B" : you have a good basic knowledge and after some training you could become a quality specialist.

If you have answered mostly "A" : this may suggest further training is needed in our quality systems. However, this is readily available in Montupet as we place strong emphasis on training and development.
